Epoxy is not bad to use at all! Epoxy has set the industry standards for concrete coatings and it is a trustworthy product to utilize in your space. Epoxy is very strong, affordable, and carries the best moisture vapor properties that help reject moisture in the slab, to provide a long lasting virtually unbreakable mechanical bond.

Our recommendation would be no, but we understand that there is a product for everyone and ultimately it is your decision to find the product or service that best suits you.
Our take on DIY systems:
Preparation- In a DIY kit they recommend pressure washing and acid etching concrete to for a surface that the epoxy can adhere to.
Water is the biggest enemy to epoxy and caused adhesion issues if the area is not completely dry prior to install. That is why we diamond grind every project to ensure a proper mechanical bond to the concrete while never introducing any moisture to the slab.
Coating- DIY kits provide a limited amount of product that require you to apply a very thin coat and the flakes provided come in small quantities which can present consistency issue in the design. Flake distribution is a learned skill and often times flakes are distributed in clumps by the DIY installer.
When we coat a floor we distribute the product at 8-10 mils of thickness. This adds a premium feel while also hiding minor defect in the slab. For the flake, we do a full broadcast. this provided a complete and consistent look while also providing some structural strength to the coating, much like rebar in concrete.
Top Coat- Most DIY kits do not provide a top coat which can lead to wear and tear on the base coat and even cause yellowing or flaking of the epoxy due to UV exposure.
Top coats are designed to protect the base and flake designs to ensure a long lasting and strong surface. The top coat will seal in all of the flake and provide UV protection that is durable and chemical resistant. Perfect for garages, patios walkways and more!
